Program Description

“Dope, Brown, and College Bound”TM is the signature program for FundEd Academy, a college planning institution of excellence. FundEd Academy’s primary goal is to empower parents and students of color in taking control over college aspirations by providing them with the necessary educational counseling and academic coaching support to help navigate and break down the barriers to success.

Andrea Williams is the CEO of FundEd Academy, and a social impact strategist focused on the advancement and empowerment of mission-driven organizations and individuals. As a catalyst for change, she utilizes her expertise and experiences as a first-generation student of color, former Professional School Counselor, researcher, communications strategist, and educational specialist to empower. 

Each lesson challenges students to engage in tough dialogue and encourages them to think of their future and the values that influence their post-secondary goals.

January 26th, 2022: Finesse Financial Aid

This session will explore the various options for college funding and how to develop a plan of pursuit. Students will explore grants, scholarships, loans, and fellowships. Students will leave informed on the various options to pay for college.

February 23, 2022: Brown and College Bound

This session explores the history of Black students, and the role racism and discrimination has had on effecting college degree attainment. Students will begin to discuss the differences of HBCU and PWIs and begin to explore the type of setting they would like to continue their post-secondary education.

March 30, 2022: Secure the Bag

This session will explore the power of scholarships, where to find them, and how to prepare to win! Students will leave with a list of the best scholarship sites, a scholarship planning sheet, and “scholarship cluster” of keywords to utilize to personalize their scholarship search.

April 27, 2022: Testing, Testing, 1,2,3

This session explores the SAT/ACT. Students will learn the components of each test and begin to determine which test is best for them. Students will also begin to discuss the impact test have on college applications.
