Program Description

Folk tales are part of an oral tradition, which means they originated in the era before literacy and are passed down verbally from generation to generation. Nan Colton, playwright, director, storyteller, actress, arts educator, and performing artist in residence for the Museum of Fine Arts, grew up in South Africa during the days of Apartheid/Segregation which has shaped how she sees the world.

Nan is compelled to write every day, with the end goal of her writing to create a live, theatrical presentation. But the why behind what she writes is essentially the urgent desire to start a dialogue, a conversation with an audience.

The community is invited to a special live presentation to include a selection of stories based on ancient folk tales and Nan's own contemporary and personal experiences in order to share what we all have in common -- basic emotions as well as our deepest hopes.

This program is made possible through the generous sponsorship of the Clearwater Library Foundation.
