Program Description
The 4-week course will examine the African American experience starting from the rise of the Western Sudanic Civilization to the present experiences of Black life in America. Prominent themes include the European Slave Trade, Black Wall Street, the Civil War and the beginning of Reconstruction; the Great Migration and Urbanization; the development of the modern civil rights movement and its aftermath.
Our subjects for the 4 weeks are as follows: Overarching Theme: African American Socio-Economic Prosperity and America's Annihilative Response
Week 1 Black Wall Street
Week 2 Greenwood, OK 1921
Week 3 Rosewood, FL 1923
Week 4 Charlottesville, VA 1965
